In the spring of 2025, I built and developed the “Look Out for KC” bike safety awareness campaign WordPress landing page for MBB’s partnership with Bike Walk KC in partnership with the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, with a focused mission: to raise awareness around bicycle safety in the Kansas City metro area.
Collaborating closely with our internal designer, we crafted a user experience that honors and humanizes the powerful — and often emotional — victim stories central to the campaign. One of the key challenges was presenting these long-form victim story narratives in a way that didn’t overwhelm users. Our solution was an interactive, expandable content design: each story is initially condensed with a clear call-to-action to “Read his Story,” while impactful victim images remain sticky in the left column on desktop, ensuring constant visual connection to the individuals behind these compelling stories.
To enhance engagement and storytelling, the site incorporates subtle yet effective UI elements — including fade-in text effects, animated illustrations that suggest movement and keep the user engaged, and a persistent sticky CTA button section encouraging user action. Special care was taken to ensure the entire experience is fully mobile-optimized, with responsive layouts and touch-friendly interactions designed to perform seamlessly across all devices.
The result is an emotionally resonant, highly accessible campaign site that not only meets usability standards but also delivers the message with clarity and impact. Since launch, the campaign has seen strong engagement and has contributed meaningfully to the broader conversation about road safety in Kansas City.
