Award Winning project: Winner of the Silver Addy Award in the Online & Interactive category from the American Advertising Awards 2026

I designed and developed the Promotional Overland Park WordPress Website while working full-time at MBB, where I was involved from initial sitemap planning through final site launch. The project included custom UX design, wireframing, and extensive WordPress development and customization, with interactive features like parallax images, animated text, and a dynamic community map. The end result was a clean, engaging promotional website that highlights the best of Overland Park and successfully met the client’s goals.

Full Project Summary

This project was especially meaningful to me, not only because of the creative and technical challenges, but also because it represents the community I’ve called home for the last fifteen years. The All in Overland Park website was built for the Overland Park Chamber by MBB as a tool to showcase everything the city has to offer—from vibrant neighborhoods to career opportunities—with the ultimate goal of attracting new residents to consider moving here.

I was involved from concept to launch: starting with the sitemap and page architecture, designing detailed, high fidelity wireframes, and then developing the full site on WordPress. The MBB creative department provided the homepage design and style guide, which I then used to design the remaining pages to ensure consistency and scalability. I also served as lead developer, managing extensive WordPress customization, while collaborating with Jess Rezac, who developed the functionality for the Cost of Living Calculator and the Careers job listing page.

Beyond content and layout, a major focus of the build was on interactive, animated user experiences that add personality without sacrificing usability. Here are some of the key UX and development features:

Key Interactive Features

Parallax Image Effects

Subtle parallax movements were added to background images, creating a sense of depth and dynamism as users scroll without overwhelming the content.

Scroll-Based Image Animations

In some sections of the website, images shift and animate as users move up or down the page, giving these sections a more engaging, modern feel and rewarding interaction.

Animated Text Styles

Headlines and text blocks feature subtle animations, adding visual rhythm and helping highlight key messaging without distracting from readability.

Animated SVG Graphics

Vector-based SVG animations provide crisp, lightweight visual effects that scale beautifully across all devices and enhance brand personality.

Interactive Community Map

On the Community Map page, users can explore Overland Park by clicking on neighbor hotspots representing different areas of town. These are complimented with parallax image block links, featuring restaurants, parks, and additional amenities. This feature turns static content into an immersive discovery tool.

Sticky Vertical Scrolling & Media Sections

Certain sections lock in place while users scroll, making it easier to consume large amounts of content in a digestible, visually engaging way.

Community Directory with Sticky Sub-Navigation

The directory page uses a sticky secondary menu and image block links to help visitors quickly jump to restaurants, services, and amenities—streamlining navigation on a content-heavy page.

Easy to Update Blog

The site also features a blog titled “Community Headlines,” which is set up in a way that makes it simple for the client to easily add new blog posts and OP news, keeping the site feeling fresh and up to date, as well as informing of community events.

Cost of Living Calculator

A Cost of Living Calculator is also included on the site, making it easy for potential residents to quickly find information about the affordability of living in Overland Park in comparison to other cities in the US.

Menu & Navigation

Navigation was another critical part of the UX strategy. The site features a sticky header with the logo anchored to the left and intuitive icons for search and the hamburger menu on the right. At any breakpoint, the menu opens into a clean panel with large parent page links. Each parent expands with a simple plus icon to reveal secondary pages, anchor links, and child pages—ensuring quick, user-friendly access to the site’s full depth.

Final Thoughts

The goal was to build a site that feels fun, inviting, and modern while maintaining a focus on clarity and usability. By combining interactive design elements with strong WordPress development and thoughtful UX architecture, we created a digital experience that truly reflects the energy of Overland Park. The client was thrilled with the end result, and the site continues to serve as a strong promotional tool for the city.
