Happy International Women’s Day!
I’m not big on holidays, but this is one I can get behind. So let’s start out with a few facts about International Women’s Day, courtesy of the all-knowing, all-dancing Wikipedia:
- Earliest observances held on February 28, 1909
- Date was changed to March 8th in 1914 worldwide
- In Italy, men celebrate the holiday by gifting yellow mimosas to women
(the flower, not the drink) - In America this year, International Women’s Day has spawned A Day Without a Woman, a general strike against the Trump regime, organized by the group behind the Women’s March which took place in January 2017
I’m celebrating International Women’s Day by watching some of my favorite Ted Talks by inspirational women. My favorite is by the charming, funny, and always thought-provoking Isabelle Allende, speaking about tales of passion from women all over the world. Watch it below.
“What is truer than truth? The story.”
