Well here it is, almost Valentine’s day again. After realizing there were quite a few good romance movies available on Netflix for the season, I figured I might as well make a list of my favorite ones. So in case you’re staying in with your significant other, watching a movie together or something, maybe these will give you a few ideas. Naturally these are all mostly a bit cheesy, some are more girly than others, etc etc.
The following are, in my opinion, the best Netflix romantic movies for Valentine’s Day available to stream online.
* Updated 1/30/2016: Titles with strikethrough no longer available to stream
Amelie
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Hands down, Amelie is my favorite movie of all time. It’s a french film, so subtitled or dubbed, but so worth it. One of the happiest, brightest movies I’ve ever seen- the writing is impeccable. I love the optimism. Such a sweet love story, too. Actually, you’ll probably fall in love with all the characters.
Ghost
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Well Ghost is an obvious classic. Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg?! Of course this movie is a perfect Valentine’s day flick.
Stuck In Love
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This little indie-esque film I found is phenomenal. Maybe not as romantic as the others on the list per se, but it has a lot of depth. Greg Kinnear & Jennifer Connelly– enough said.
A Little Bit of Heaven
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This movie is as funny as it is heartbreaking. A story based on a woman, the amazing Kate Hudson, who finds out she has cancer & follows her in how she deals with it. Such a beautiful love story too. But yeah, you’ll probably cry. Bonus: Kathy Bates stars as her mom.
A Walk On the Moon
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: I love movies like this – set in the 1960’s- the clothing, the turmoil. Anyway, this is a sweet movie. It’s emotional, too – naturally girly – but it really taps in to what it would be like to marry young in another time because you were pregnant and thats how things went. Sweet & worth the watch. Diane Lane, too!
Straight A’s
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: I thought this movie would be really cheesy. Which, well hey it kind of is- what romance isn’t? However, it’s pretty good too. There’s witty dialogue, fun characters, metaphors & old southern charm. Plus with Anna Paquin, Luke Wilson and Ryan Phillipe– well, that always helps.
Say Anything
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: I don’t think I need to say much about this one. It’s a classic. Period. Young John Cusack = so cute.
The Rebound
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Yep another super girly movie. But cute! I like this one, and Catherine Zeta-Jones is always pretty great. It’s funny, dorky, witty, cheesy- all the ingredients for a good romcom.
Indecent Proposal
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Yet another classic. Dont think I need to say much about this one either. Woody Harrelson!
Shakespeare in Love
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This is a good romantic-romance movie. Obviously overly exaggerated and who knows if any of it is really accurate at all, but still worth the watch if you need a Valentines day movie.
Pretty in Pink
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: OF COURSE another classic. Molly Ringwald, John Crier- I still love you.
I Hate Valentine’s Day
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Yep girly & cheesy as well, but hey what can I say- it’s cute, too. And hey, if you’re like me, then this one is definitely fitting for ya!
