Ah ha, here it is again upon us: Christmas time. As usual, I am somehow caught up on most of my Christmas shopping (thank you, online shopping!) & in turn have spent countless hours scouring the internet for the best geek gifts I can find. (Too many to count or estimate at, exactly- I prefer not thinking about it.)
So in keeping up with tradition in posting my favorite Geek Gifts from across the net, here is my list of unique, nerdy, overall weird, geek gift guide ideas for Christmas 2013. Maybe it can be of some help to you as you try to wrap up your Christmas shopping as well- because hey, socks are always good, but geek gifts are something of a gem in my world.
Also, it should probably be mentioned that not all of these gifts are entirely ‘serious’ gifts per-se and may come in handy for white elephant parties, secret santa gifts, etcetera. Let’s just say a little humor can go a long way sometimes. If all else fails, give money to charity or a local dog shelter.
Oh, Walt & Jesse. I still can barely utter your names. So sad to see the amazing show come to a close earlier this fall. HOWEVER. Heisenberg can live on in the hearts and now, bath tubs, of the masses thanks to this: Breaking Bad Bath Salts, found on Firebox.com.
What says Merry Christmas like some fake meth? Really now.
This gift combines two of my favorite things: gardening & dinosaurs. Hurrah! Sadly, much like the demise of the dinosaurs, most of my plants end up dead on window sills and porches around my home. Yet these dino planters give me hope that that fad may change. After all, how can you ignore a bright pink T-Rex chilling in your living room? Genius idea, I love it.
All right, confession – I already bought these for myself when I found them a few months ago. But that just speaks to their sheer magnificence & awesomeness. Found on Nylon Journal, which is the online home to oh-so-many wonderful socks, tights, & hosiery across the board- these are sure to steal the show.
Oh, my undying love for sarcasm & general downright cynicism! Ahem. It should be mentioned that The Onion Store has tons of crazy awesome gifts sure to get a laugh or two when hanging with the family around the Christmas tree. Or Christmas bottle. Whatever. Anyway, these mugs (above) are a few of my favorite finds from The Onion store. Guaranteed to please the right gift getter.
Like a lot of geek girls, I love cute things. Add computer functionality into the mix & you’ve found a sure winner. That said, these USB drives with their own USB Hub in the form of a damn toaster- pure joy. Each USB drive is in the shape of a little piece of toast. Oh me ohhh my. Enough said. Get them here.
What geek could deny the sheer delight and amazingness that IS the Back to the Future triology? Capital OMG. Found this amazing iPad Case via the net and could not help but share. Biff! McFly! Bah, it’s just plain wonderful.
Admittedly, I’m more of a coffee girl than tea- but hey, need to take time to sleep every now & then (or so I’ve been told.)
There are lots of awesome tea infusers out there, that’s for sure. However, I seem to have a thing for ducks, so had to add this little guy into the list. As if anyone could resist a cup of tea made with this.
I know, I know, I know: this is basically ridiculous. HOWEVER. It’s also amazing!
The writer inside of me cries out for this incredibly expensive, anachronistic hardware: The USB Typewriter. Plug in your iPad & type away. No white out necessary. Would I ever use it? Not sure. Would it be money well spent? Probably not. But still, STILL. So clever & unique.
This is a good one for secret santa type of gifts. Or at least, I’ve given it to a few people in the past & basically just enjoy the look on people’s face when they examine the ‘canned’ unicorn meat. Kind of awesome, kind of funny, I enjoy it. Vile & cute at the same time = win/win situation! Bonus points for gifting to a vegetarian or vegan.
Designer geeks unite! CMYK Forever!
The graphic design student in me chuckled at this pretty good. Naturally I like any kind of jewelry displaying my nerdom, especially when it’s the type you have to read between the lines to get.
In a time when people rarely “play” anything without looking into some sort of screen, this game is a real gem. Over a few beers or glasses of wine, it gets even better- trust me. Being the terribly crass human being I am, I always seem to win at this game- although it seems to me that that isn’t exactly the sort of thing to brag about. It’s dirty, it’s raw, it’s mostly just downright wrong, which is of course why I love it. Find it on Amazon.
Oh of course, I must poke some fun where I can. Lord knows we’ve all made this mistake before! (Right??) Well, it happens. You kissed a republican but don’t worry, there’s a gum for that.
PS: Oh, & don’t worry. There’s “I Kissed a Democrat” gum available as well, but i’m not going to give you the link to that one. 🙂
My inner 90s child is showing: all hail PJ Harvey. AH. This shirt is weird, sure. But so is PJ Harvey. Indie music geeks are sure to enjoy- that is, if they still remember who PJ Harvey is. I can’t be the only one left, right? Pft. Miley Cyrus, move the hell over.
Clearly, I have an overwhelming and equally unhealthy obsession with all things Moose. And then there was this- Eureka! The Moose Head mobile phone stand. Grab one of these & you’re good to go. Not a moose fan? Sounds like a personal problem.
Probably the most overused & beloved font in the WORLD, may I present to you the Helvetica shirt. I’m sure there are plenty of similar shirts out there. But I like this one. BAM!
And finally for the hoarding geek in your life (aren’t we all hoarders??) there is the Random Crap tin box! As if your favorite geek needs more places to hide useless junk- i.e. old phones with smashed screens, outdated membership cards & pieces of lint- well hey. Everyone has their vices, right? Kind of love this, not going to lie.
If you enjoyed this geek gift guide, be sure to check out my other listings for all your geek needs. And if you didn’t enjoy it, well- Merry Christmas & Happy Cyber Monday anyway.
