Netflix Halloween Movies Horror

With September coming to an end, that means one thing to me: it’s almost October. Or as I lovingly call it, ‘Halloween-all-the-time’ month.

Autumn! Bring out the dusty Halloween decorations from the basement, the smell of burning leaves in the air, the bags of shitty candy corn that they still sell for some reason- but most importantly, the horror movies. And what’s better than Netflix horror movies?!

And so in the spirit of the season, I’ve compiled yet another list of my favorite Netflix Instant Streaming movies, but with a Halloween twist: all these movies are Horror movies. Netflix Horror movies, slasher movies, violent movies, supernatural fun & voodoo.

Feel free to let me know what I left off. ALSO! Comments & your thoughts on this list are always appreciated. 🙂 Enjoy!

Be sure to check out my list for 2014 for more Halloween Movies on Netflix!

Donnie Darko

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Hands down, this is my favorite Halloween movie available on Netflix Instant. Trippy and weird, with a great story line (albeit a bit confusing), this one shouldn’t be missed. Oh yeah, and did I mention Jake Gyllenhaal? PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Bereavement

bereavement netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This movie is downright creepy. It’s violent, sad, well written (for the most part) and just generally bad ass when it comes to horror.

The Shrine

The Shrine netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Love the plot twist in this movie; it’s great. At first, like many horror movies, may seem a bit cheesy but hey- all in all? I’d say pretty good.

YellowBrickRoad

YellowBrickRoad netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Straight up: this movie is nuts. It’s got the whole ‘creepy history of a creepy town’ aspect to it, which hey, I’m a fan. Psychologically just pretty crazy all around.

The Skeleton Key

The Skeleton Key netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Kate Hudson is a bad ass. I’ll admit it: I LOVE this movie. Voodoo black magic, paralyzed speechless old guy, a collection of creepy yet ‘kind’ Southern characters- what’s not to love?

Monsters

Monsters netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Who doesn’t love a good Monster flick? Well, I for one love them. This movie, though not very well known at all, is great. End of the world flicks are always good in my book too.

The Pact

The Pact netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Eerily silent gaps throughout the move add to the suspense. AH! This one I really dig. It’s like one long unfolding mystery with a crazy plot twist at the end. I can dig.

Carriers

Carrier netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This movie is another ‘end of the world’ virus type of movie but I gotta say- I pretty much loved it. The characters were cool, and the movie had some good twists in it. Check it out.

The Corridor

The Corridor netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This movie is nuts. On the same psychologically weird plane as YellowBrickRoad, I have to say, it weirded me out good.

Insidious

Insidious netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: A pretty well known movie from what I’ve heard (though I haven’t seen the sequel yet, which I’ve heard is equally terrifying,) this is the kind of movie I can’t watch alone. Just forget about it.

The Omen

The Omen netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: I’m a huge fan of classic horror movies. The Omen happens to be one of those. Creepy black dogs, creepy kid, random suicides and other strange devil type references, this is a great classic.

Absentia

Absentia netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: I’m not sure where to begin with this movie: it’s just downright nuts. I like the characters and felt like it was pretty well written- pretty unknown as far as I can tell, but in my humble opinion, worth watching.

Wake Wood

Wakewood netflix horror movie

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: This movie has the same weird, creepy old town with a weird history aspect to it too, and- oh! Of course: a freaky child. Hey, what can I say- it’s not the best, but not the worst.

Thanks for the list, there is a lot of crap on Netflix so it’s nice to get someone else’s viewpoint on what is worth watching and when you started out with Donnie Darko I knew you were someone I could jive with. Just finished The Skeleton Key and it was awesome, always been a Kate Hudson fan so not sure how I never heard of this one but so glad you pointed it out. Got Bereavement and The Pact in the queue, can’t wait for part 2, you rock.

    • Thanks for the props Bryan, much appreciated & so glad to hear the list is being of some use! There IS a lot of junk to navigate through on Netflix and having cut the cable cord a few years back, I thought it’d be helpful to some people who may be in search of good stuff to watch, specifically for Halloween. Glad to hear you enjoyed Skeleton Key- Part II will be posted soon! Cheers 🙂

    • Awesome, thanks Summer!! Much appreciated! 🙂 You’ll have to drop me a line and let me know what you think of those two, they’re two of my favs. Also I found out recently that Monsters is directed by the same guy who’s directing the upcoming Godzilla movie (which looks pretty rad, I gotta say) so that’s a plus, too. Cheers love!
