Above is the one of the websites I manage, kudl.com, for the Kansas City Radio Station 98.1 KUDL. (Click on the image above to view full screenshot.) I was excited that this year, I got to design the entire header for the website. I had a clear idea in mind, after brainstorming with my coworkers about what the overall design should look like, but I was having a problem finding images of Snowmen to use. And especially finding a snowman image that wasn’t copyrighted and could be used for free.
So finally one morning I woke up & had an idea. I grabbed my old sketchbook, wiped off the dust & went to sketching. I did about 12 different versions of the same basic snowman idea, & scanned them in at work. Adobe illustrator helped me to get the sharp crisp outlines I needed, and basic flat colors. Then I took them into Photoshop & added more details, and put all the pieces together to make this header. I think the fat little snowmen came out well though! After working on a computer so much of the time, sometimes it’s easy to forget that I can pick up a pencil & do it the old fashioned way, too.
Happy Holidays to all!
